Carolina Allen, founder of Big Ocean Women, discusses the motivation behind her desire to find a space for women away from some of the more aggressive politics that progressive feminism is known for. Rather than seeing a maternal feminism as weak, she experiences it as creative, peaceful, inclusive and powerful.
Very interesting. I would have liked her to address adoptive families and infertility better (her phrasing was archaic). The BOW website is not welcoming towards families by adoption or foster families or women who face infertility; seems odd with such a maternal focus that she appears founded in “nature” over “nurture.”
Well done, as always, Gina.
